Microsoft Announces Xbox 360 Price Drop

Rejoice gaming fans, if you don’t already have your Xbox 360, this may be the time! Microsoft confirmed today that there will in fact be a price drop of $100 CDN on the Xbox 360 console effective August 8, 2007. The Xbox 360 will now retail for an estimated retail price (ERP) of $399 CDN/$349 US, the Xbox 360 Core System now for $299 CDN/$279 US and the premium Xbox 360 Elite will command, a still princely sum, of $499 CDN/$479 US.

"The fact that we have been able to keep our launch price longer than any other console while retaining our leadership position demonstrates that consumers believe in the value of Xbox 360," said Mitch Koch, corporate vice president, Global Retail Sales and Marketing Group, Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft.

But wait, rumor is...

You may want to hold off a little longer before taking advantage of those price drops. Rumor has it that Microsoft might be putting an HDMI port into all Xbox 360 bundled hardware, not just the Elite units. If it is true, it would be expected to see the hardware revision in the next couple months after existing hardware stock is sold off. Granted it's only a rumor, but you could see why Microsoft would not want to publicize such an upgrade, as it would be difficult to clear out the existing hardware.
